We supply 17-4PH precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel bars directly from stock, also known as AISI 630, UNS S17400, W.1.4542 and X5CrNiCuNb16-4. These designations refer to the same steel grade, identified under different standardization systems depending on the applicable reference standard.

17-4PH / W1.4542 Steel: Properties and Typical Applications

17-4PH is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel containing approximately 15–17.5% chromium and 3–5% nickel. It can be hardened through aging heat treatment, offering an excellent combination of mechanical strength, hardness and corrosion resistance.

It is commonly used in applications requiring high mechanical strength, hardness, wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. Typical applications include pistons, shafts, rods and components for the oil and gas, aerospace and power generation industries.

Its corrosion resistance is superior to that of conventional martensitic stainless steels, such as AISI 410. By selecting the appropriate heat treatment, different levels of mechanical strength and hardness can be achieved to meet specific application requirements.
